Google has hired a senior graphic designer to replace its former Chief Executive, Susan Wojcicki, Breitbart News has learned.
Wojcik will be tasked with creating an integrated visual and digital design system for Google’s digital marketing efforts, the site has learned from an unnamed Google spokesperson.
The move comes just a week after Wojczicki resigned amid a culture war over Google’s diversity efforts and its continued use of “safe spaces” for women and people of color.
Woycik, a native of Poland who has worked at Google for more than two decades, is best known for her work on Google’s Search Engine Results, Google Plus, and Google News products.
She previously worked for Yahoo as a design lead and for the company’s design division.
Google’s decision to hire Wojcek comes just one week after Google announced the hiring of another senior design executive, Adriaan Degenhardt, to replace Wojcki.
Degenhart previously worked at Facebook and Twitter as a senior designer and senior vice president of design.
DeGenhardt, who has also been an employee at Google, has been with the company for nearly two years.
A Google spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The hiring of Wojčic is a sign that Google’s search-engine marketing team has moved beyond the company-wide hiring process, according to the Breitbart News source.
A recent internal memo from Google’s marketing department stated that Wojcilks job was to work with Google’s Google Search Engine Ads team on “strategic decisions that impact Google Search, Google Search Ads, and the Google+ experience.”
Google has been known to hire outside designers for its marketing efforts.
In addition to Wojkcik and Degenhards job, Wojcillks departure came just a few days after Google’s new CEO, Sundar Pichai, reportedly told employees to “go hard” on diversity.
“Google is changing the way it does business to bring in more women and more people of all ages, gender identities, and backgrounds to lead Google’s future,” the memo read.
“We want to hire the best talent, so it’s important for us to keep our hiring process focused on our core values of openness, diversity, and inclusion.”
A Google spokeswoman did not respond to an email request for more information on the hiring process.
The new hires are expected to work in the company as senior designers for Google Search and Google Plus products, according the Breitbart source.
“This is a great step forward for the Google team as we move forward as a leader in digital advertising and digital media,” said Google+ CEO David Marcus.
“With Susan Woycickii leading the team, we are committed to working with her to find the best people for our new positions.”
Google’s senior design team has already made a splash on social media, with former Google CEO Larry Page tweeting out a link to a Google+ ad for his wife, a prominent actress, as well as a link for an ad for a designer who had designed a mural for a school project.
Page and Woycinckii have also worked together on a design contest sponsored by the World Wide Web Consortium, which is part of Google’s parent company Alphabet.
The contest is named after Google and was won by a team of designers from Google and the World Broadband Alliance.
Google has not yet responded to requests for comment on the news of the new hires.
