graphic design has been making the headlines lately as a growing segment of the U.S. economy.
But for a long time, graphic design was largely ignored in the fashion and design industries, and its popularity has declined since its heyday.
But now graphic design’s popularity is finally rising.
According to the Graphic Designers Guild of America, there are now over 400,000 graphic design jobs in the U.
“It’s very hard to imagine how the economy could be growing so fast in a way that the traditional art industries are not,” said John Stoll, co-founder of the graphic design firm Studio C, in an interview with CNNMoney.
In fact, graphic designers have been growing in the industry, especially as a percentage of all jobs in America.
That’s up from just 6% in 2008, according to a study by the Graphic Artists Guild of the United States.
But the number of graphic design employees has actually been declining since 2007, when there were 1.6 million full-time designers.
The trend toward the digital design of things like apparel, magazines, and even games has also accelerated.
This year, the graphic designers guild’s board members, representing more than 400,00 artists and graphic designers, voted to call for the inclusion of digital in all its design and manufacturing processes.
They also voted to include graphic design in the 2020 U.K. Olympic Games.
The guild’s vice president of operations, Joanna McVay, says that the demand for graphic design isn’t just in the digital realm.
“The demand for graphics and design in our industry is increasing every year, because of the way the technology is moving,” she told CNNMoney, “and because of social media and digital marketing.”
McVay said graphic design “has become the most valuable, valuable skill that people are putting into the workforce, so they are not going to get a job if they don’t have the right skills.”
To be sure, the digital market is booming, as well.
In the last six months, Adobe alone generated more than $1.5 billion in revenue, up from $900 million in 2015.
The digital market also has a growing number of companies looking to develop digital products.
In 2016, digital advertising company Foursquare partnered with Adobe to create a digital portfolio that was built on the design work done by graphic designers and graphic design firms.
The firm also launched a mobile app that can be used for advertising on social media.
“Digital design is the future of how we interact with digital content,” Foursqare CEO Chris Karpman told CNN.
