Graphic design has a lot to answer for: Its new rules are confusing, its new rules have made it harder for designers to get a job and its new regulations have made graphic design less interesting.
But the city is taking the time to do it right.
The rules were proposed last week, but they’re set to go into effect Jan. 1, 2020.
Here’s what to know about them.
What are graphic design rules?
New York City adopted its first graphic design rule in January, saying that designers must use black in all of their work.
It is a pretty strict rule.
What are the rules for designers?
If you’re designing a design for a publication, then you need to use black on all the images.
That means that the images must be black, unless they’re just white, in which case they need to be white.
But it also says that you can use any color.
So designers can use colors other than white, black, gray, red, yellow, green and blue, or other colors if they want to.
Why is this new rule important?
The city wants to ensure that designers have a lot of freedom.
And that’s why it’s putting more emphasis on design, said Mark Clements, the city’s deputy commissioner for the arts.
So, how did this rule come about?
In February, the City Council approved a new rules that say designers must be at least 25 years old and have a Bachelor’s degree or higher, or have worked in the arts for at least six years and have at least five years experience designing or designing-in-progress graphic design.
That’s a very old rule, he said.
But the new rules add a new rule that says that designers who work with other designers should be treated as equals.
And if they’re working with other artists, that means they should also be treated equally.
How do the rules apply to me?
You can apply for an official license to use a design.
You’ll have to fill out a form with a couple of questions, including whether you have a graphic design license or not.
Then, you’ll be given an artist-approved template for the piece, which will have to include a black-and-white, full-color or a simplified version of that design, Clements said.
This is what the rules look like: There are some other important points to remember.
If your piece is too long or doesn’t look good, you can ask for a retouch or a new version.
Designers have until March to get their work approved.
But, in the meantime, they have until Jan. 31 to start making their work visible.
And there’s no end date for those designs, either.
