The graphic design world is big and crowded, with many great new designers in the mix every year.
So what’s it like to be working in one of these?
I spoke to two graphic designers who have worked with graphic designers on some of my favorite projects.
The two are currently working on a graphic design project together and I caught up with them to talk about the industry and the craft.1.
The name ‘Graphic Design’ sounds a bit cheesy to many, but there are some great designers out there.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a graphic designer?
I’m not a graphic artist, so I’m still a designer.
It’s an industry that’s very niche and hard to enter, so it’s great to be able to work alongside people who have done a lot of work and have a passion for it.
It’s also very rewarding to be surrounded by people who love what you’re doing and care about the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into it.2.
I used to be very obsessed with creating things in Photoshop, but now I’m just trying to make things.
How do you balance creating something with the artistic side of the job?
I do think I have more freedom in how I approach my work than I used to.3.
When I’m in the studio, it’s usually for a few days and then I have to get out.
What are some of the best times of the year to be in the office?
The best time to be at the studio is the weekends when there’s no traffic, so you can work on something and see how it feels.
I’ve also got the best time of the week because I can get out and go somewhere and hang out with my mates.4.
How do you decide what to create?
The key thing is that you don’t really want to do something that’s too different to the original idea.
Do you have any tips on how to create something that feels like your own?
You’re looking for something that has a consistent style.
That means that it’s something that doesn’t feel like it’s going to change, but you can always adapt it to your needs.
It can’t be a thing that’s just been put together, so that it doesn’t match the rest of your work.5.
What’s the best part about working in the industry?
You have a lot more freedom, which is a great thing.
I get to be creative and do whatever I want.
It feels like I’m making a whole new thing.6.
I think a lot people in the graphic design industry tend to be more comfortable doing something different than others, especially in the design process.
How would you describe your own style?
I think that’s a really good question, because I think people tend to just do what they’re comfortable with and do it with the tools they have.7.
Are there any advice you’d give to someone trying to get into graphic design?
Don’t start with a very simple design, it will only get worse from there.
I don’t want to tell people to start with something that looks like a piece of cardboard or a piece that looks really cool, I just want them to start small.8.
What advice would you give to anyone starting out in the craft?
Always keep your eyes open.
Be curious about what people are saying and what they think about it. Don
